Farming 101

Our meeting this week was fresh from the farm!
The girls visited Slater Farms as part of their Animal Badge and were introduced to new activities and information.  After meeting the small heard of sheep, each girl was able to bottle feed a baby calf - only five days old!  Several girls went into the pens with the calves and interacted with them.  The girls saw over 300 cows in one of the barns, and toured the parlor to see where milk comes from!  Slater Farms put on a great program and we all enjoyed it!

All third-grade Brownies are invited to attend the Daisy meeting tonight at the church at 6:00 p.m. Before flying up to Juniors, Brownies must mentor a Daisy scout and tonight is their last meeting!  This event will take about 20-minutes and is one of the last requirements before bridging!

Don't forget the Fremont Memorial Day Parade this Monday!  This will take the place of our regular meeting.  All girls participating must wear their sash/vest or a Girl Scout shirt.  We're meeting at the Fire Barn at 6:00 p.m. and parents can pick up their Girl Scout afterward in the park.

Girl Scout Night at the West Michigan Whitecaps!

This past Saturday, several Girl Scouts from troop #4324 went to Girl Scout Night at the West Michigan Whitecaps!

The price of their tickets included a hot dog and a soda for each of them and there were plenty of other snacks the girls indulged in - elephant ears, ice cream, and peanuts!

Before the game, all the girls walked around the field.  Aubrey and Savannah were selected to play "Score Wars" in between the 7th & 8th inning, and we all enjoyed fireworks after the game!

May 11, 2015 Troop Meeting

This week at our meeting we worked more on our animal badge.  Hanna brought in her sugar glider to share with all the scouts. They're found in Australia and are small, cute exotic pets in the U.S. We learned about their eating habits, where it likes to sleep, and that it can glide across the room to give the appearance of flying! Thanks Hanna for sharing!

Each Girl Scout then chose an animal they'd like to have as a pet and developed a care plan including essentials like food, habitat, and medical care, and more fun options such as toys.

Attention parents of girls going ot the White Caps game this Saturday!!! We are leaving the church at 4:30 p.m. A hot dog and soda are included with the ticket price, but you may send your Girl Scout with money for additional food items. The girls must be dressed in jeans and bring a jacket - there are fireworks after the game and it will get chilly as the sun goes down. Girls may bring a blanket or other items, but they are responsible for carrying these items - the leaders cannot carry items for all those girls!

Next week we're attending Slater Farms to learn more about farm animals. Please return your child's signed permission slip to attend the farm.

Horses!

As part of their Animal badge, the girls traveled to a local horse farm to learn about the care (and fun!) of horses.  The troop met several horses, but Dolly, Strawberry, and Stormy were their favorites.  They fed the horses and spent some time talking to and petting them.  The owner, Mr. Bill, was very friendly and helpful and taught us a lot about horses.

Next week we're continuing the Animal badge with a regular meeting at the church.  May 18, the following week, we're headed on another farm field trip - wear your overalls and muck-boots!
