June 29 Meeting

The troop started working on their Bugs Badge this week.  They did some bug art work, and we talked about different kinds of bugs and how each of them are unique. The girls also enjoyed grasshoppers and worms as a snack! (Dont worry - not real ones! They were Keebler Grasshopper cookies and sour gummy worms.)

Each girl took home a bug container and a worksheet packet. Next week, please have your Girl Scout bring in a live bug and the first 2 pages of the worksheet filled out with facts and other information about the bug she chose.

At the meeting next week, we're going to compare bugs and learn more about the world of insects!

It's an absolute pleasure to work with your daughters throughout the summer and hear stories of their adventures! Thank you parents!

Monday Meeting June 15, 2015

This week's meeting was dedicated to finishing up the Citizen Badge!  So far the girls have participated in the Memorial Day Parade, the Flag Ceremony, learned about anthems, logos, what a motto is, and the importance of those things in our community.  The final piece for the Citizen Badge last night was going on a "flag walk."

We walked around the church neighborhood and spotted several flags!  Most were American Flags displayed in peoples' yards, but we did see the State of Michigan flag, too!

Also, some of the badges the girls have earned were sent home last night!  I can't wait to see the Girls wearing them proudly on their vest/sash!

Next week's meeting is at Branstrom park at 6:00 p.m. for our Bridging Ceremony!  Please have your Girl Scout dressed nicely, hair combed, clean and neat, and wearing her Girl Scout shirt and Brownie vest or sash.  The second year Brownies are flying up to become Juniors!  Parents and grandparents are invited to attend - can't wait to see you there!

SAVE THE DATE!

  • On Friday, July 10 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Courtney is hosting the Girl Scouts at her home for a cookout and campfire!  Lots of fun activities are planned for the girls!
  • Monday, July 13 is the Amazing Race Beach Party at Branstrom Park from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  If you haven't paid the $8 registration fee for your Girl Scout, please bring it to the the next meeting.
  • Instead of our normal meeting on Monday, July 27, parent's are invited to attend the meeting at Lakeside Swirl for ice cream and watch their kids play at the park!  You're welcome to stay to let your Girl Scout swim in the lake after the meeting is over - there will be no swimming during the scheduled meeting time of 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
It is an absolute pleasure to work with this Girl Scout Troop.  Thank you parents!

Flag Ceremony

This week instead of our regular meeting, the girls were asked to participate in a flag ceremony with the Knights of Columbus. What an amazing opportunity for this young troop! Each girl that took part in the ceremony was able to present several tattered flags for proper disposal. It was truly am honor to serve our community in this capacity and I hope it's something we can participate in next year.

Our Bridging Ceremony is coming up quickly! Parents and grandparents are invited to join us at 6 p.m. at Branstrom Park on Monday, June 22nd. About half of the troop is flying up to Juniors for next school year.

Also coming up is a campfire and cookout on Friday, July 10th at Mrs. Courtney's house from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  More details to come!

Thank you parents for all your support!

June 1st Meeting

Last night at the Girl Scout meeting the girls discussed their plans for the summer and the upcoming year.  They have lots of really great ideas and we're going to be busy!

Please begin collecting empty paper towel rolls and dryer lint NOW - we're making campfire starters at our meeting on June 15th.

For the summer, we're going to work on a couple badges, and focus on enjoying the great weather while it's here!  The First Aid badge is coming up, and a campfire/cookout celebration, Amazing Race, and bridging.

NEXT WEEK the meeting will be held at St. Michael's church in Brunswick.  The girls are participating in a flag retirement ceremony with the Knights of Columbus.  The ceremony starts at 6:30 so please have your girl scout there by 6:15 p.m.

The troop will continue to meet every Monday all summer long!
UPCOMING EVENTS!
  • June 22 - Bridging ceremony where 2nd year Brownies will "fly up" to become Juniors.  Parents and grandparents are invited! Your girl scout must wear her sash/vest and/or her Girl Scout shirt.  No holy jeans, girls must have their hair combed nicely, and be neat and clean.
  • July 10 - campfire cookout with games.
  • July 13 - Amazing Race at Branstrom Park, 1-3pm.  There will be no regular meeting this day.

With our Troop expanding and gaining so many girls, we are in need of parent volunteers.  Don't worry - you don't have to lead meetings!  (You can if you want though!)  Mostly we're in need of drivers to get the girls places when we go on outings.  Girl Scouts of Michigan requires all parent volunteers to be registered Girl Scouts and to pass a background check (done at no cost to you).  Please start thinking about ways you could help out the troop over the summer and going into the next school year.  Information will be sent home soon about that process.

Thank you parents for your support this year as we got the troop up and running!  The summer months will bring a lot of fun for the girls and we look forward to planning our next adventures with them!

Memorial Day Parade

Girl Scout Troop  #4324 was asked to participate in this year's Memorial Day Parade!  What an honor to serve the community and celebrate our fallen heroes.

The girls lined up and walked along with police, fire, Boy Scouts and, of course, local area veterans.  Some girls proudly held the "Fremont Girl Scout" banner while we walked - this is quite an honor and the girls love to do this!

After the parade, the troop stayed for the memorial service at Veterans Memorial Park.  Fremont band performed the Star-Spangled Banner and a few American classics, tribute was made to the local fallen veterans as their names were read aloud, and the service ended in prayer.  It is a very touching ceremony!
