Falls Sales Info **IMPORTANT**

Our troop is near the end of the fall product sales promotion.  Here is some important information before we wrap it up!

Register to sell magazines and nuts/candy online!  

Go to girlscouts.qspgao.com/mists to sign up.  This makes it so easy to get friends and family involved - you can send them a pre-made email, a text message, and share on social media to invite them to order online!

THE BEST PART: If your girl scout sends 12 or more emails, they earn a special patch for their vest!

Also online: Register online at the link above and design a "MyCreation" giraffe that reflects you!  Reach an online sales goal and get a personalized patch!

Postcard sales

Complete the postcards with names and addresses of family and friends and return the booklet to get a very cool 2015-16 sales patch to display on your vest!

Hand out business cards

The sales kit came with business cards the girls can hand out.  This makes it easy to put a personal touch on asking family and friends to order online.

Due dates & money info

REMEMBER: Money is due when the order is placed.  All money must be turned in October 26 (that's only four days from now!) along with the order forms.

Skills for girls

Girl Scout fundraisers teach valuable life-skills like goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.  All important things to learn that can be carried into adulthood.

Why we do fundraisers

Fundraisers can be a pain - I know.  There are school fundraisers, girl scout fundraisers, and sports fundraisers.  And all of them are important.  What's so special about doing fundraisers for Girl Scouts?

Girl Scouts introduces your daughters to lots of topics and activities they wouldn't otherwise have access to.  And all of that costs money.  Many troops collect weekly dues at each meeting - our troop is lucky enough to have amazing girls that sell an amazing amount of products so we don't need extra money from the parents.

Last year our troop traveled to different farms to learn about raising livestock and even had the opportunity to bottle-feed baby calves!  This year we've already completed a Geocaching badge and have meal-making coming up soon.  We also do fun activities like movie nights and roller skating!

Thank you parents for your support!  We couldn't do this without you!

Geocaching Success!

The troop had so much fun geocaching last night!  The girls learned how to use a GPS unit to get them where they needed to go.  And they were all able to find the hidden geocache fairly easily!

For this badge, the troop enlisted the help of Mr. Tim Deater, Nora's dad.  He's an avid geocacher and has experience in geocaching as far away as New Mexico!

Mr. Deater hid a special (unpublished) geocache for the troop to practice on at Arboretum Park.  The girls were able to use a GPS to find this one.  There is a real, published geocache nearby, and to find that one, Mr. Deater had the girls use a compass.  Everyone did great!

Make-Up Info

For all the girls not at the meeting last night, this is going to be a tough badge to make-up.  You'll need to find a geocache on your own!  You'll find information at www.geocaching.com to help you get started.

10/12/2015 Meeting Recap

Last night we started our Geocaching Badge!  Oh - how exciting!  It was fun to hear geocaching stories from a few of the girls who had already done it!

For parents who might not know what geocaching is, it's a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. You can find more info at the Geocaching website.

Special thanks to Nora's dad, Tim Deater, for speaking to the troop!

Next week, Mr. Deater will come back and lead us in finding a real geocache outside!  Make sure your girl scout is dressed for the weather!!!

Meeting Recap 10/5/2015 (and movie night pics!)

Meeting Update

The girls continued working on their aMuse badge this week.  We talked about different roles girls (and women) play and the girls were asked to choose their favorite female roles.  For most every girl, the list started with popular tv characters & singers like Debbie Ryan from Jessie (on Disney) and Taylor Swift.  Slowly they started to realize that playing a role doesn't only happen on tv or on stage - their parents, friends, and other family also play roles throughout life!

Fall product sales information went home!!!

Please note: If you have asked or may need to ask for financial assistance for uniform, membership fees, or event registration you must participate in the fall sale to be qualified.

• Money is due at the time of sale - this is the only fundraiser that GS does that is set up this way.
• Orders and money are due on October 26
• Product will be delivered to our unit the week of November 16. Distribution date will be determined after our troop has received the product and it has been sorted out by girl.

Girl Scout Movie Night was a success!!!

Thank you parents for bringing the girls to this last-minute event!  We all had a great time - our troop packed the theater!

9/28/2015 Meeting Recap (and Parade Pics!)

Meeting Update

The troop started the aMuse Journey this week.  This is a little different than our typical badge activities.

A Girl Scout Journey is a more intense, more in-depth version of a regular Girl Scout Badge.  Journeys are designed to identify problems and develop creative solutions so girls can make a difference in the world.

The aMuse Journey explores new roles and challenges stereotypes - such as "only men can be firefighters," or "I'm a girl so I can't be president."  Nonsense!  Girls can do anything boys can do!!!  And this Journey will help increase confidence and show them they can inspire others.

The girls talked about jobs that aren't typically done by females - astronaut, president, farmer - and shared why they thought that would be a fun job for them to do.  We played charades and acted out different occupations and the girls had to guess what each job was!  There were lots of laughs!!!

If you haven't already, please turn in all the forms that were sent home in your Parent Folder.  If you have questions, just ask!  We're happy to help.

Girls were sent home with Parent Permission forms for tonight's movie night!  Bring them with you to the Fremont Cinema tonight at 5:15 p.m.

Please fill out & bring all those forms printed on green paper from the Parent Folder to Monday's meeting.  

Also, be sure to turn in the Uniform Order Form with the money this week, too - uniforms will be ordered this week!

Parade and Movie Night

ATTENTION PARENTS and GIRL SCOUTS!!!

The Fremont Harvest Festival Parade is this Thursday!  

Please have your Girl Scout dressed in her tie-dyed t-shirt, her hair combed and pretty, and wearing clean pants without tears or stains.  Also, comfortable shoes are a must-have.  We will meet at the Christian School baseball field in Fremont (this is north of Room to Bloom daycare a block or two) no later than 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The parade route ends at Veteran's Memorial Park in Fremont, and you may pick up your Girl Scout immediately following the parade at the park.

Next week Tuesday, September 29, is movie night 

for this Girl Scout troop!

Parents are encouraged to attend all Girl Scout outings!  For the safety of our girls, and because the Girl Scout Council says so, please turn in the Adult Volunteer Packet to register as a Girl Scout and authorize a background check or you will not be able to stay and enjoy the movie.

Friendship Night - September 21, 2015

Friendship night at Girl Scouts was a huge success!  Nearly everyone brought a friend, the room was overflowing with girls!  And you know what that means... tons and tons of giggles.

Friendship bracelets were made and the girls were instructed to trade bracelets with someone they didn't know.  Hard to do in a Girl Scout troop!  But because there were so many new girls there, it was pretty easy to make a new friend.  

Then we went outside and had fun playing games.  We played "Mirror, Mirror," where one girl mimics everything the other is doing (like a mirror), and Red Rover.

Afterward, a few of the girls drew "chalk people" while waiting for their parents.

It was a great meeting!

Next week we're starting to work on our first official badge of the new school year!

Parade & Zoo Trip

Hello Parents!

Just a reminder that our troop meets every Monday at the Fremont United Methodist Church from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Also, don't forget to send in all those green forms you got in your Parent Survival Folder!  I know it's a lot... but it's necessary to have a great year at Girl Scouts.

We Need Your Help!

The troop is going to the John Ball Zoo soon and we need your help to get our (very large) troop there!  Please turn in the Adult Volunteer Packet to be a driver for this event!

Don't Forget

The Fremont Harvest Festival Parade is Thursday, September 24!  One of the best things about being a Girl Scout is walking in the local parades!  Don't miss it!  (Plus the girls get a patch for this, and patches are awesome.)

The parade will head west on Main Street and will end at Veteran's Memorial Park.  You can meet us there to pick up your Girl Scout.

Meeting Update

Our meeting this week started with an info session for the parents.  Parent Survival Folders were given out and we talked about some of the fun planned so far.

After the parent meeting, the girls introduced themselves.  We had THREE NEW GIRLS at the meeting last night!  Awesome.  So introductions were done.

Following that, the Friendship Circle.

And then we went outside because the girls were crazy-hyped-up from the excitement of a new school year.  

We did "the human knot," and a relay race.  Here is the winning relay team!

Upcoming Event: PARENT MEETING

Somehow we all made it through the first week of school!  Now we have the weekend to recover before jumping back into the school routine again next week.

Parent Meeting - Monday, September 14, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

On Monday, instead of our normal meeting, we're having a special meeting for the parents.

Parents, please attend Monday's meeting!  We have TONS of information for you!

You'll get a Parent Folder with information about our upcoming year.  We'll discuss the different things in the folder and what needs to be turned in.

Girl Scout Weekly Round Up

This week was our last meeting before starting the 2015-2016 school year.  And we celebrated with paint!

Everyone had a great time painting picture frames and enjoying some "girl talk" together.  It was low-key, and a great end to our summer Girl Scout season.

Also this week was our registration booth at the Daisy Brook open house!  Special thanks to Elektra, Allison, Hannah, Lilly, and Nora who were able to stop by and talk to potential Girl Scouts about how great our troop is!  There was a lot of interest and I look forward to seeing our troop grow in the coming weeks!

Parents: Please consider volunteering with our troop.  A great troop can't happen without the help and support of our parents!  Right now we're looking for a few parents to stay during the meeting to help the girls with projects for badges, and parents to volunteer to drive when we have outings and events.  We have a very large troop and sometimes our events are cancelled because we have no way to get the girls from the church to the location - and that can be disappointing.  If you have any questions, please contact Courtney or Amy.
