9/28/2015 Meeting Recap (and Parade Pics!)

Meeting Update

The troop started the aMuse Journey this week.  This is a little different than our typical badge activities.

A Girl Scout Journey is a more intense, more in-depth version of a regular Girl Scout Badge.  Journeys are designed to identify problems and develop creative solutions so girls can make a difference in the world.

The aMuse Journey explores new roles and challenges stereotypes - such as "only men can be firefighters," or "I'm a girl so I can't be president."  Nonsense!  Girls can do anything boys can do!!!  And this Journey will help increase confidence and show them they can inspire others.

The girls talked about jobs that aren't typically done by females - astronaut, president, farmer - and shared why they thought that would be a fun job for them to do.  We played charades and acted out different occupations and the girls had to guess what each job was!  There were lots of laughs!!!

Parade and Movie Night

ATTENTION PARENTS and GIRL SCOUTS!!!

The Fremont Harvest Festival Parade is this Thursday!

Please have your Girl Scout dressed in her tie-dyed t-shirt, her hair combed and pretty, and wearing clean pants without tears or stains.  Also, comfortable shoes are a must-have.  We will meet at the Christian School baseball field in Fremont (this is north of Room to Bloom daycare a block or two) no later than 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The parade route ends at Veteran's Memorial Park in Fremont, and you may pick up your Girl Scout immediately following the parade at the park.

Next week Tuesday, September 29, is movie night
for this Girl Scout troop!

WHO: Your Girl Scout!

WHAT:  Hotel Transylvania 2

WHERE: Fremont Cinema, 1027 W Main Street, Fremont, Michigan

WHEN: 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, September 29

DETAILS:  Bring your daughter to the Fremont Cinema at 5:15 p.m. next Tuesday.  The cost is $6 for the movie plus any extra money to buy drinks/snacks.

Parents are encouraged to attend all Girl Scout outings!  For the safety of our girls, and because the Girl Scout Council says so, please turn in the Adult Volunteer Packet to register as a Girl Scout and authorize a background check or you will not be able to stay and enjoy the movie.

Friendship Night - September 21, 2015

Friendship night at Girl Scouts was a huge success!  Nearly everyone brought a friend, the room was overflowing with girls!  And you know what that means... tons and tons of giggles.

Friendship bracelets were made and the girls were instructed to trade bracelets with someone they didn't know.  Hard to do in a Girl Scout troop!  But because there were so many new girls there, it was pretty easy to make a new friend.

Then we went outside and had fun playing games.  We played "Mirror, Mirror," where one girl mimics everything the other is doing (like a mirror), and Red Rover.

Afterward, a few of the girls drew "chalk people" while waiting for their parents.

It was a great meeting!

Next week we're starting to work on our first official badge of the new school year!

Stay tuned for announcements regarding the parade on Thursday and a movie outing for next week!

Parade & Zoo Trip

Hello Parents!

Just a reminder that our troop meets every Monday at the Fremont United Methodist Church from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Also, don't forget to send in all those green forms you got in your Parent Survival Folder!  I know it's a lot... but it's necessary to have a great year at Girl Scouts.

We Need Your Help!

The troop is going to the John Ball Zoo soon and we need your help to get our (very large) troop there!  Please turn in the Adult Volunteer Packet to be a driver for this event!

Don't Forget

The Fremont Harvest Festival Parade is Thursday, September 24!  One of the best things about being a Girl Scout is walking in the local parades!  Don't miss it!  (Plus the girls get a patch for this, and patches are awesome.)

WHERE: Near Room to Bloom Daycare in Fremont
WHEN: Have you Girl Scout There no later than 5:30 p.m.

The parade will head west on Main Street and will end at Veteran's Memorial Park.  You can meet us there to pick up your Girl Scout.

Welcome Girl Scouts and Parents!

Welcome to the 2015-2016 Girl Scout year!

We are so excited to get started!  There are badges to complete, patches to earn, and lots of fun to be had!

Meeting Update

Our meeting this week started with an info session for the parents.  Parent Survival Folders were given out and we talked about some of the fun planned so far.

Inside the Folders you'll find:
  • Parent's Welcome Letter
  • Parent Handbook
  • Uniform Order Form
  • All About Me for your Girl Scout to fill out
  • Information about how you can help the troop
  • Health History Form
  • Photo Media Release
  • Permission Slip to participate in product sales
  • Adult Volunteer Packet
  • Financial Aid Forms to help with Uniform and Registration costs
  • Calendar of Activities for September and October

See?  Lots of information!  If you couldn't make the meeting last night, no worries!  Just let me know and I'll get you the hookup.

After the parent meeting, the girls introduced themselves.  We had THREE NEW GIRLS at the meeting last night!  Awesome.  So introductions were done.

Following that, the Friendship Circle.

And then we went outside because the girls were crazy-hyped-up from the excitement of a new school year.

We did "the human knot," and a relay race.  Here is the winning relay team!

Upcoming Event: PARENT MEETING

Somehow we all made it through the first week of school!  Now we have the weekend to recover before jumping back into the school routine again next week.

Parent Meeting - Monday, September 14, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

On Monday, instead of our normal meeting, we're having a special meeting for the parents.

Parents, please attend Monday's meeting!  We have TONS of information for you!

You'll get a Parent Folder with information about our upcoming year.  We'll discuss the different things in the folder and what needs to be turned in.

Can't wait to see you all there!

Girl Scout Weekly Round Up

This week was our last meeting before starting the 2015-2016 school year.  And we celebrated with paint!

Everyone had a great time painting picture frames and enjoying some "girl talk" together.  It was low-key, and a great end to our summer Girl Scout season.

Registration Booth

Also this week was our registration booth at the Daisy Brook open house!  Special thanks to Elektra, Allison, Hannah, Lilly, and Nora who were able to stop by and talk to potential Girl Scouts about how great our troop is!  There was a lot of interest and I look forward to seeing our troop grow in the coming weeks!

Parents: Please consider volunteering with our troop.  A great troop can't happen without the help and support of our parents!  Right now we're looking for a few parents to stay during the meeting to help the girls with projects for badges, and parents to volunteer to drive when we have outings and events.  We have a very large troop and sometimes our events are cancelled because we have no way to get the girls from the church to the location - and that can be disappointing.  If you have any questions, please contact Courtney or Amy.

SCOUTING EXPO!!!

August 24, 2015 Meeting

Planning & Catching UP Meeting!

Because Girl Scouts are encouraged to select and plan their own activities and events, we spent our meeting making plans for the upcoming year.

There was also ice cream!

The girls came up with some really great ideas.  Some were a little outlandish (Disney World?) but most were excellent opportunities to tackle in the upcoming year.

A few girls finished some of their requirements for their first aid badges, and reminders were given for the bug badge.  All activities for the Bug Badge and the First Aid Badge must be completed by September 14th.

Coming Soon!

  • There will be no meeting on labor Day, Monday, September 7th.
  • A parent meeting is scheduled for September 14th - important details about the troop and participation will be discussed - don't miss it!
  • The Harvest Parade is coming up quick - save the date for Thursday, September 24th!
  • Check the CALENDAR for more events!

MEETING CANCELLED!

Attention Girl Scouts and their parents!  Tonight's Girl Scout meeting is cancelled.  There was a scheduling conflict that couldn't be worked out for tonight.  But we will meet next Monday as scheduled.

See you all next week!

Meeting - August 10, 2015

Meeting Update

HUGE shout out to Leanne from Life EMS for talking to the troop last night!  The girls learned about EMTs, how ambulances can get people the help they need quickly, first aid techniques and even role played scenarios and how to handle emergency medical situations!

And the girls made first-aid kits to take home filled with bandages, gloves, gauze, alcohol wipes and antibiotic ointment.

What great life skills to learn!

Coming Soon!

There is no meeting on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th.  And we're having a parent meeting on Monday, September 14th.  Also, information about the next Girl Scout year is coming soon!

Make up

To make up the requirements for the first aid badge this week, girls should:

  • Tell the group at the next meeting what an EMT is and how ambulances help the community.
  • Complete a first-aid kit.
  • Fill out this form and return it to the next meeting.

Questions?

We're still looking for a few parent volunteers for the upcoming Girl Scout year.  A lot of time isn't required - mostly the need right now is drivers to get to events.  We can't fit the entire troop into our two cars!  If you're interested in becoming a volunteer driver for one of our troop outings, please let us know.  You will have to pass a background check and be a registered Girl Scout (I guarantee your daughter will get a kick out of you being a real Girl Scout!), and financial aid is available for the registration fee.  Give us a call or click on the "contact us" link at the top of the page!

Meeting August 3, 2015

Meeting Update

The troop started their First Aid badge this week!  We talked about what 911 is and it's purpose.  Then they role-played calling 911 and took turns being the caller and the dispatcher.  What an awesome learning experience!

We finished up our meeting by going outside and playing a game about whether or not to call 911 during certain situations.  The girls did a great job!

Coming Soon

Next week should be the final meeting regarding first aid.  This will be the last badge the girls complete before school starts back up on September 7th.

Make-Up

Girls unable to attend this meeting must complete the following:
1.  Complete this First Aid Quiz and return to your leader.  Also review the second page of that to learn what doctors and other emergency professionals do to help in emergency situations.
2.  Provide two examples of when it's appropriate to call 911 and two examples of when they should not call 911.
3.  Fill out the Make Up Badge Form and turn it into your leader.

Questions?

If you have any questions or would like ot help participate in some of our meetings or activities, please contact a troop leader!  We're always looking for volunteers!  Give us a call or check out this page to email us!

Girl Scout Meeting 7/27/2015

Greetings!

Yesterday the girls finished up their Bug Badge.  Whew, I'm glad that's over - I don't like bugs!  But the girls really enjoyed it and we all learned so much about the insect world!

Email Update:

Parents: emails will no longer be sent to you by your Girl Scout leaders.  Instead, you are asked to sign up for email updates on this website so you can stay in the loop on our events and activities.  Submitting your email address will allow you to automatically get an email every time the troop website is updated!

There's a box to the left to enter your email address to sign up for email updates.  If you're having trouble, click here for instructions on how to do it.

Coming soon!

Next week, we're going to start the Brownie First Aid badge!

Make-Up

For the Girl Scouts who weren't able to make it to the Bug meetings for the Bug Badge, here are the requirements to do it at home.  This must be completed within the next 2 weeks (by the meeting on August 10th) for your Girl Scout to get credit for the badge.  Then have a parent/adult and the Girl Scout fill out and sign the Badge Make-up Form and bring it in to the next meeting.  (Click here for the Badge Make-up Form.)

Requirements for the Bug Badge

1. Catch a bug in a container.  Observe the bug.
2. Click on this link to get the form to fill out about the bug (return the form to the Girl Scout Leader).
3. Print this Insect Word Search (click here), complete and return to the Leader.
